Stop and Frisk
Stop and Frisk practices have been relevant in NY for over 12 years. Basically what stop and frisk is, is police officers stopping people based on race and ethnicity. There is no reason for these stops. Statistics show that more than 9 out of 10 people stopped are innocent.

This picture shows two law enforcers frisking two African Americans for no other reason than what they look like. How can any city allow this, this is institutional racism at its best statistics show that in 2013 191,558 people in New York were stopped by the police. Eighty eight percent of these people were innocent. 56 percent of people stopped were black, 29 percent Latino, and 11 percent white.
“[Stop-and-Frisk] is a program that is effective… you used to not be able to walk down the streets of this city safely and today you can walk every neighborhood during the day and most neighborhoods at night. .”
– Ray Kelly
There have been no studies that prove the effectiveness of stop and frisk practices. The amount of arrests, summons and guns recovered are so minuscule that it shows that the practices are ineffective. The fact that 85% of the innocent people stopped are black and Latino shows that police target black and Latinos, which is a perfect example of racial profiling.

A federal judge found the stop and frisk practices to be in violation of the 4th and 14th amendments. The 4th amendment because it bans unreasonable searches, and with stop and frisks police officers can search anyone they want. It violates the 14th amendment of equal protection because they are targeting certain people that are not even bothering anyone.
